Naviglio Grande Canal. This canal is part of Lombardy navigation system built in 1770 as part of difensive system of Milan area. Starts from Sesto Calende where Ticino river comes out of Lago Maggiore.
Is a really easy track all flat with cycling route closed to cars from Milan Darsena up to Sesto Calende. In summertime is home of a bike night ride Milano to Lago Maggiore (100 km). Ideal for springtime with possibility to recover Milan with train and with bars and stops on the way.
Naviglio Martesana.
From Gae Aulenti square (close to Garibaldi FS train Station) in the skyline new area of Milan you can start an easy ride along the canal crossing town, suburban area, rural area and riverside path which takes you up to Lecco lake. The way is partially unpaved and requires mtb or touring bike (gravel bike will be perfect..). On the way you’ll find lot of refill spots (bars restaurant) and the leavings of Leonardo da Vinci opera . Mostly under tree shades ideal even in hot summer days, less in winter! You can interrupt whenever you like and turn back your wheels to Milan or reach the Northern part of the lake.
